Detection of CD61 expression in megakaryocytes by immunohistochemistry (IHC) with CD61 (2F2) Mouse Monoclonal Antibody may be used to aid in the diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukemia.

CD61 is an integrin cell-surface protein that functions in thrombus formation by acting as a binding receptor for fibrinogen, fibronectin, plasminogen, prothrombin, von Willebrand factor, and other prothrombotic molecules. CD61 is normally expressed on platelets, megakaryocytes, myeloid progenitor cells and endothelial cells.1-4 CD61 expression is also seen in acute megakaryoblastic leukemias.5 Immunohistochemistry for CD61 shows a cytoplasmic and membranous pattern of staining.
